1996 introduced

A driver had to qualify within 107% of pole time to start; the rule ran until 2002 and returned in 2011. Source

2003 introduced

Each driver ran one flying lap alone on Friday and Saturday; cars then went into parc fermé, so race fuel loads were set before qualifying. Source

2004 changed

Both single-lap qualifying runs moved to Saturday, the second setting the grid. Source

2006 introduced

Q1, Q2 and Q3 knockout sessions replaced single-lap qualifying; tyre changes in races were allowed again. Source

2016 changed

A rolling elimination format ran in Australia and Bahrain and was replaced by the previous knockout format. Source
